The Miami FC 2 Defeats Storm FC 2-0

The Miami FC 2 hosted Storm FC on Wednesday night, beating the Broward side 2-0. With the victory, Miami FC 2 is now just one point behind first-place Miami United FC in the NPSL Sunshine Conference standings.

The Orange and Blue made its intentions clear from the opening whistle, deploying an extremely high defensive line and committing numbers forward. The uber-offensive game plan resulted in Miami taking 13 shots in the first half, many of which came painfully close to sneaking in or were saved well by Storm’s goalkeeper.

Kris Tyrpak, in particular, was itching for a goal, getting off a team-high four shots (two on goal) in the first 45 minutes of the match. Darío Suárez, Tyrpak’s mirror wing partner, took three shots, two of which were on goal.

While Tyrpak came inches away from opening the scoring several time, it was Suárez who got the Orange and Blue’s first goal in the 35th minute. The shifty forward let loose from long distance, powering his left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net to put Miami up 1-0.

Miami closed out the first half dominating possession and the scoring chances, but several key saves by Storm FC’s goalkeeper kept the deficit at one goal.

The second half began much in the same way that the first did, with Miami pouring attackers forward and controlling the ball in the opponent’s side of the field.

Don Smart and Tyrpak combined throughout the entire match on crosses, with Smart delivering accurate balls into Tyrpak in the box. In the 60th minute, that connection finally resulted in a tally for Miami, as Tyrpak got on the end of a looping Smart cross and buried home a bouncing volley in front of goal.

Forward Jaime Chávez came close to joining Miami’s triumvirate of forwards with a goal of his own in the 71st minute, when he muscled his way into the box and found himself with time and space just a few yards from the goal. Unfortunately, his shot was miraculously saved by Storm’s goalkeeper.

The Orange and Blue had a few more scoring opportunities during the final 20 minutes of the match, finishing the night with 20 shots taken. Miami held on tightly to its 2-0 lead and came away with three crucial points.

The Miami FC 2 now heads to the road for its final away match, going west to face Naples United FC on Wednesday, June 27. The Orange and Blue then returns home for its final two matches against Naples United and Boca Raton FC, on Tuesday, June 3 and Saturday, June 7, respectively.
