Fort Pitt Regiment Solves FC Buffalo Puzzle

Trio of scorers lead Ft. Pitt to 3-1 win

A Rubik’s Cube provides most people with an insurmountable challenge that leaves them frustrated.  Jeremy Figler was just such a puzzle to the Fort Pitt Regiment, stopping a number of shots that appeared destined for the back of the Buffalo net.

While Figler made a number of outstanding saves, the Regiment solved the FCB netminder.  Ryan Landry knocked one past the Buffalo backstopper from the edge of the box.  Lucas Canineu earned the assist with a nice pass across the area to set up the shot that gave FPR a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.

Akeen Shackleford knotted the score in the 28th.  Kendall McFayden found the FCB forward to earn the helper on the goal.

Four minutes later, Tulio Canineu took a corner that Figler and company knocked down into the path of Lucas Canineu.  The younger Canineu wasted little time giving the Regiment the lead at 2-1.

Tulio Canineu tallied a goal of his own when Lucas Godinho found him streaking down the left.  It was third time in the game the older Canineu would square off with Figler in a 1v1 confrontation and he was able to solve the puzzle to close out the game’s scoring at 3-1 in the 74th minute.

Figler stopped five FPR shots in the first 18 minutes as the Regiment maintained consistent pressure.  The Buffalo keeper saved 10 shots with many from in close.

Regiment goalkeeper Rob McKelvey was equally up to the challenge provided by the Buffalo attack.  The FPR keeper regularly faced 1v1 challenges from Shackleford and McFayden while only allowing one goal.  His command of his area on corner kicks and set pieces proved vital in containing the Buffalo attack.

The victory was the Regiment’s second over FC Buffalo.  They opened the season with a 2-0 win in Buffalo.

The Regiment improve to 6-3-0.  They travel to Syracuse on June 27 for a 7:00 pm kickoff at Onondaga Community College.
