FC Buffalo scored the biggest comeback victory in its eight-year existence on Sunday when three second-half goals led the Blitzers to a 3-2 win over Fort Pitt Regiment at Highmark Stadium.
The Regiment came out with a fury on a day with a 100-plus degree temperature at field level, taking a 2-0 lead into halftime.
But Akean Shackleford (Savannah La Mar, Jamaica/Indian Hills CC) netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season off a Fox Slotemaker (Nelson, New Zealand/Old Dominion University) knock down to make it 2-1 with a 49th minute goal.
The second goal didn’t come for nearly a half-hour, when Bayley Winkel (Whitby, Ontario/Robert Morris University) belted a cross that turned off a Fort Pitt player and into the goal to make it 2-2.
Three minutes later, it was Slotemaker’s second assist that set Braden Scales (Lockport, New York/University at Buffalo) up for a headed finish. The Blitzers and goalkeeper Jeremy Figler then locked down the goal for all three points.
