FORT PITT REGIMENT OFFENSE SPUTTERS AGAINST ERIE COMMODORES

The Fort Pitt Regiment hasn’t scored a goal of its own making since winning their opener 1-0.  The Red Coat attack has proven capable of moving the ball all over the field, but has yet to threaten an opponent’s goal in a manner forcing goal front acrobatics and scrambles.

While the Pittsburgh side’s offense misfired, Ezana Kahsay was all the offense the Commodores needed.  The Erie forward knocked in three goals.  Thaylan Sanches Silva netted the fourth Erie score.

Kahsay’s first goal came in the seventh minute as he lifted a soft shot over Scott Rissler.  Sanches Silva scored the second Erie goal with another shot just over the stretching Rissler into the top of his goal.  This Erie strike was hit with a bit more pace and was from 25 yards.

While Erie had a 2-0 lead in the first half, the Red Coats managed to control possession for chunks of time and took the same number of shots, four, as Erie.  The threat level of the shots was the difference.

In the second stanza, Kahsay added a goal in the 48th minute and then closed out the scoring in the eight minutes later when he was able to clean up a rebound off a cross inside the six-yard box.  Kahsay tormented the FPR defense throughout the entire match, forcing some additional saves in the second half.

The Regiment falls to 1-5 on the season.  They now look forward to a pair of weekend games with AFC Cleveland.  They visit the Royals on Friday evening at 7:30 pm and host a return match Sunday afternoon for a 2:00 pm kick-off at Birko Memorial Stadium.
