Oliveira’s Steakhouse of Somerville Partners with National Premier Soccer League Club during Build Up to Season Kickoff

More than two million drivers and passengers who navigate the highways of Boston will be introduced to Boston City FC as the professional soccer club advertises the kickoff of the new season from prominent roadside billboards.

Boston City FC will feature on two electronic billboards, building up to the National Premier Soccer League opener against New York Cosmos B at Malden Catholic High School on Saturday, April 29 (kickoff 7:00 pm), and the club’s second home match on May 13.

One billboard will be displayed above the busy Leverett Circle interchange in Boston, catching the eye of traffic traveling southbound into the city on Interstate 93 for a period of five weeks.  The other will attract motorists traveling along Route 1A in East Boston towards Revere Beach, close to the Target Superstore, for two weeks.

Boston City has partnered with Oliveira’s Steakhouse of 120 Washington Street in Somerville and the popular traditional Brazilian steakhouse will have a presence on the billboards.  As part of the alliance, Oliveira’s will provide some special opportunities for Lions fans who attend future matches and will be present in-stadium during the upcoming Boston City season.

“It is exciting to reach a new and potentially massive audience through these billboards as we continue to ramp up our profile and branding,” said Boston City Managing Director Craig Tornberg.  “We are promoting an accessible and affordable family event and high-quality soccer that appeals to the Greater Boston community.  We have a great partner in Oliveira’s Restaurant, who will continue to be prominent at our matches throughout the season.”

The Boston City billboards make a nod to the rich history of soccer in the region, paraphrasing the ‘Kick In The Grass’ term that became popular when the sport first burst onto the American sporting landscape and teams such as the Boston Minutemen and the New England Tea Men played in the original North American Soccer League.

“There is a generation of soccer fans here in the city who remember those times and who saw true superstars of the world game like Pele and Eusebio play just minutes from where we play our matches,” added Tornberg.  “We can bring that same excitement to a new generation of supporters and develop new heroes for them to cheer on from the stands.”
