Club will play on the campus of Baldwin Wallace University
Cleveland Soccer Club has announced its home ground for the 2019 season will be The George Finnie Stadium at Baldwin Wallace University.
Located in Berea, OH, Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium has been home to the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets since 1971 and will host the Cleveland SC faithful in their second NPSL campaign.
“In choosing a stadium, we wanted to ensure our players were playing at a state-of-the-art facility,” said Sam Seibert, Cleveland SC President and General Manager. “It is also critical that the stadium gives all of our supporters everything they need to celebrate the team in their own unique way, so we can continue to deliver the league’s best fan experience. We believe that The George Finnie Stadium allows us that opportunity.”
The playing field will be familiar for Cleveland SC striker Danny Ruple, who will enter his senior season at Baldwin Wallace in fall 2019.
“It’s great that the club chose to play at Baldwin Wallace University,” said Ruple. I’ve enjoyed playing here for the past three seasons and it’s the perfect location and facility to give Cleveland SC fans the best gameday experience.
During its first season, Cleveland SC’s home was Don Shula Stadium on the campus of John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.
“We want to recognize and thank John Carroll University for their more than gracious hospitality during our first season in operations as a club, and providing our team, staff and fans a memorable place to call home,” says Seibert. “We wish them the best while Don Shula Stadium undergoes renovations this summer, and can’t wait to see the final product.”
Cleveland SC’s first match at their new home field will also be the first international friendly in club history – played against Mexico’s Liga MX club Monarcas Morelia Reserves.
The match will take place on Cinco de Mayo, May 5, 2019 at The George Finnie Stadium.
The May friendly will take place just weeks before Cleveland SC kicks off its second NPSL campaign.
