Temecula FC Defeats Oxnard Guerreros FC 3-0
By Temecula FC
Temecula maintained an unbeaten start to the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season thanks to a 3-0 win over Oxnard at Del Sol Stadium on Wednesday. Jordan Curry, Tarek Nazzal, and Joey Ciochetto were all on the scoresheet to help the Quails keep pace in the title race.
Temecula may be in the thick of the title race, but the matches to come will prove if the Quails are good enough to ultimately compete for the title or playoffs this season. It’s a case of one match at a time for Austin Levins side.
The step forward is obvious in a defense that’s gone from one of the more suspect in the NPSL last season to one of the toughest. A makeshift unit at times that always finds a way to grind out the result and goalkeeper Brent Reis, who resigned with the Quails earlier this year, has surrendered just two goals, the joint-fewest in the conference tied with FC Golden State.
It was a far cry from last season which saw Temecula lose 4-0 at Del Sol stadium and finish bottom in the league. It was no surprise it took a few changes in the offseason to help turn things around. The Quails also resigned Rafael Carneiro on Monday and added three more signings from Buena Park in Ben Ortega, Bryan Orta, and Nathan DaRosa, who all played their part on Wednesday.
In fairness to Oxnard, they had a good amount of efforts but just could not find the back of the net. As the match wore on the Quails grew in confidence and once the second goal went in, there was only going to be one result on the night.
Temecula FC now travel to ASC San Diego on March 16th hoping to keep their unbeaten streak alive. Oxnard will host FC Arizona on the 16th looking to turn their season around.
