On a wet Saturday night in Tennessee Inter Nashville FC kicked their 2019 NPSL season off with a bang by defeating defending Southeast Conference champions Atlanta SC 4-1. Goals by Ethan Keogh, Frank Down, Nate Grant, and Elliot Goodwin got the job done for Nashville who won their third season opener in a row.

Nashville started off the stronger pushing Atlanta back during the early exchanges and created a breakthrough in the 10th minute after great work on the wing by Elliot Goodwin who beat his man and crossed for Ethan Keogh to tap home. Atlanta escaped conceding another after a Nashville miss in the six-yard box and then countered with a long ball and were awarded a penalty when David Koloko was brought down by goalkeeper Josh Goepper.

Paulo Alves stepped up and almost managed to get the ball in the goal with a weak penalty under Goepper in the 19th minute. After the Atlanta goal the first half was back and forth until Frank Down scored a great header off a free kick from the left by Cristian “Pato” Gomez in the 42nd minute.

The second half started just as the first half did with Inter Nashville on the front foot and dominating possession with Atlanta looking to soak up pressure and play on the counter. Nashville scored their third goal from another cross, this time Cristian Gomez assisting Nate Grant in the 61st minute. Nashville finished their scoring in the 77th minute with the best goal of the match, a first-time volley from Elliot Goodwin off an assist by Chuka Aruh.

Inter Nashville FC are on the road this Tuesday as they take on Asheville City FC at 7.30 pm ET, while Atlanta SC look to bounce back against Georgia Revolution FC on Saturday.
