Head coach Doug Miller could not have asked for a better start to the National Premier Soccer League season on Sunday night.
His Rochester Lancers recorded a 4-0 victory over rival FC Buffalo in their season opener, entertaining the crowd at Charles A. Schiano Field at Aquinas Institute.
The Lancers struck early and often in their home opener.
Their most memorable goal just might have been the first one in the 21st minute, when Serbian striker Uros Momic scored a goal worthy of SportsCenter. Nicknamed Momo, Momic, from the left side of the field, fired a looping shot that settled into the right corner of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Lukas Fernandes assisted on the goal.
From there, it was all Rochester as Anthony Rozzano, Major Arena Soccer League standout defender Jake Schindler, and Austin Gerber also found the net to give the crowd something to cheer about and return to a future game. Goalkeepers Andrew Coughlin and Brian Wilkin combined for the shutout.
The Lancers hit the road for their first away game of the season at Cleveland SC in Berea, Ohio on Sunday, May 26 at 2:00 pm.
They return to Aquinas to host Cleveland SC on Sunday, June 2 at 5:00 pm as the second game of a doubleheader with the Rochester Lady Lancers of United Women’s Soccer.
