Cleveland SC Starts Season Strong with 5-1 Win over Syracuse FC

By Cleveland SC

It was a hot and humid day in Syracuse as Cleveland SC and Syracuse FC opened the 2019 NPSL season in front of an excited crowd of fans at Lazer Stadium.

The scoring started early as Cleveland’s Vinny Bell unleashed a shot from an extremely wide angle on the FC Syracuse goal. Despite the best efforts of the Syracuse keeper to get a hand on the shot, the ball found the side netting to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse would level the score 23 minutes later in a mad scramble in the Cleveland 18-yard box. Cleveland’s keeper Daniel Nagy would come up with saves on the first two shots on goal, but the ball would fall to Syracuse’s Sam Fuller to put away the final shot to bring the score to 1-1.

It looked like the game would head into halftime tied until the 37th minute when Cleveland’s Tom Beck would grab his first goal of the day. After a scramble for control in Syracuse’s box, the ball would fall to Tom Beck’s foot for an easy chip shot to put Cleveland back in the lead before half.

The second half of the game was all Cleveland as Vinny Bell and Tom Beck would put on a show by scoring a combined three goals, the last of which would earn Beck Man of the Match honors for Cleveland.

Next up, FC Syracuse will travel to Robert E. Rich All-High Stadium to take on FC Buffalo on Friday, May 31st . Meanwhile, Cleveland SC will return home to face the Rochester Lancers at The George Finnie Stadium on Sunday, May 26th . Tickets for all remaining Cleveland SC matches at George Finnie Stadium are still available at ClevelandSC.com.
