Club Atletico Saint Louis (0-0-1) and FC Wichita (0-0-2) drew 1-1 in their match on Sunday evening in St. Louis, Missouri.

“I think we controlled the game fairly well,” CASTL midfielder Liam Collins said. “We just need to be a little more clinical and deadly in the final third. We had a lot of chances.”

The two teams played a very evenly matched game. No goals were scored in the first half between the teams.  CASTL recorded one shot on goal and FC Wichita recorded none.

That changed in the second half, as both teams were able to connect with the net.

CASTL scored first, as Collins connected on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute of the game.  The penalty kick was awarded to CASTL after Adama Kante’s near goal, which resulted in a penalty on FC Wichita.

“I just concentrated on hitting it well and finding the back of the net,” Collins said.

However, FC Wichita did not give up and CASTL’s lead evaporated quickly. In the 81st minute, Luca Anelli scored, making the game level.

CASTL nearly scored near the end of the game but came up short as FC Wichita goalkeeper Mark Weir recorded the save. Neither team was able to convert again, resulting in a draw.

“We attacked,” CASTL head coach Ricardo Garza said. “But we’re not finishing.”

FC Wichita now has recorded two points on the year, good for third place in the Heartland Conference. CASTL, now with one point, sits in fourth place.

“We have another game on Thursday and a chance to get three points.” Kante said.

CASTL is set to battle the Little Rock Rangers on May 23 at SLUH. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm. The game will be streamed live on MyCujoo.

“I think it will be a really good matchup because we have guys that can attack and get forward,” Garza said. “This week’s training is going to give us momentum.”
