Boston City FC Defeats Greater Lowell Rough Diamonds 2-1

By Greater Lowell Rough Diamonds

Boston City FC celebrated a victory by defeating crosstown rivals Greater Lowell Rough Diamonds, 2-1, on Friday night.  Boston City’s John Dumbuya scored both goals against his former Greater Lowell team after the Rough Diamonds missed four goal scoring opportunities.

It was a night of mixed experiences for the Rough Diamonds.  They had a very somber start to the night when they lost last week’s Man of the Match Mack Walton to a season-ending injury within six minutes of play.  Following this there were multiple missed opportunities to score. Nonetheless, there were some positive takeaways. Friday night’s game was the largest attendance for the Rough Diamonds due mainly to Beyond Soccer of Lawrence.

It was a Beyond Soccer Night and many families attended the game in support of the Greater Lowell Rough Diamonds players.  Beyond Soccer summed up the night’s experience in these words. “So many youth players came out, parents too. Some even got a special on the field experience…stuff that reminds us of the power of sports to inspire and connect.”

Dumbuya, who was named Man of the Match, scored both goals for his team.  Emmanuel Smith scored the lone goal for Greater Lowell.

Despite the loss, Greater Lowell looks to take home three points at their next meeting on Boston City’s home turf in Revere on Sunday.
