Demize NPSL Earns Three Points Against Unbeaten FC Wichita
By Demize NPSL
Demize NPSL came out on top 2-1 against FC Wichita, a team that was previously unbeaten in
their 2019 campaign. The Heartland Conference matchup took place Thursday evening at
Cooper Stadium in Springfield, Missouri. Wichita opened up the game strong, winning two
corners in the first 12 minutes.
The Demize responded and forced a save on a ball that Nencho Margarita redirected on frame.
FC Wichita threatened again as Adam Jones struck a shot off the post from outside the 18-yard
box in the 26th minute. The visitors found themselves in a counter-attacking situation in the
43rd minute following a Demize corner that forced goalkeeper Lucas Daunhauer out of his box
to clear the ball with a sliding challenge. The Demize attack kept the energy up and scored in the
45th minute as Marcelo Hernandez assisted midfielder Gustavo Nascimento, who calmly found
the back of the net.
Demize NPSL carried the momentum into the second half as Nascimento scored again on an
assist from returning starter Erik Pereira. Demize possessed the ball well in the second half and
center backs Matt Perry and Pedro Bassin kept numerous through balls from breaking the back
line. FC Wichita finally broke through and scored a goal in the 88th minute.
The visitors earned multiple free kicks in the dying moments of the game and forced a save from
19-year-old Daunhauer in stoppage time. Nascimento’s two goals turned out to be too much to
come back from and the Demize held on to a 2-1 victory in their second outing of the season.
Chris Hanlon and Guilherme Ferreira’s team now looks to prepare for their upcoming matchup
with Little Rock Rangers on June 5th.
