Georgia Revolution FC Defeats Atlanta SC 1-0
By Georgia Revolution FC
Georgia Revolution FC won their second game of the season and created history against their
crosstown rivals Atlanta SC in the second leg of the 2019 iteration of the Atlanta Derby. The
game was a defensive battle filled with possession battles across the field, great defensive stops
by both back lines, and a crucial game-winning goal by forward Jumar Oakley.
Oakley scored his seventh goal as a member of the Revolution in the 67 th minute of play
following a brilliant assist from midfielder Brahan Gamarra which Oakley took advantage of
following his substitution into the game in the 65 th minute of play. Oakley’s goal was his seventh
goal in a Revolution jersey which tied him for second all-time for goals with former Revs
forward Isaac Promise.
The final score line of 1-0 was a huge victory for the Revolution as it was their first win over
their crosstown rivals going back to their former moniker of the Atlanta Silverbacks. The
Revolution had not won a game in the Atlanta Derby since 2012. This also marks the Georgia
Revolution’s first home win of 2019 and only the second home victory for the team in Red,
White, and Blue in McDonough, Georgia since moving the team in 2015.
The game saw a few bright spots in goalkeeper Evan Gaffney who followed up his five-save
performance against Asheville City SC with another stellar game and the first clean sheet of the
season for the Revolution in only his second start.
The other bright spot of the game came in defender Nate Johnson who made his second start in
the 2019 season following an injury prior to the start of the Atlanta SC game on May 11th. He
made his return to the field with a Man of the Match performance where he made several crucial
tackles and commanded the defensive backline for the entire 90 minutes for the Revolution.
Georgia Revolution FC return to action Saturday, July 29 th against Greenville FC at Sirrine
Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina to try and retake the lead in the series which the
Revolution lost in McDonough 2-1 to open their season. The match is scheduled for 7:30 pm ET
