Costa Earns 2019 NPSL Members Cup Golden Boot
Chattanooga FC forward Joao Costa has won the 2019 NPSL Members Cup Golden Boot after scoring six goals in the competition.
“I would like to thank Chattanooga FC, Coach Bill, Coach Fuller, and Coach Mattheiss for trusting me to be apart of this amazing club,” Costa said. “It is my name that will be on the Golden Boot, but I am sure I wouldn’t be able to get this award if it wasn’t for my teammates, coaches, the support of my family, fans, and everyone who is involved with the CFC. Without a doubt, CFC has been the club I have enjoyed playing with the most out of my career. This is my second year with this club, and it would be an honor to keep helping in the coming years. Thank you so much for everything.”
Costa joined Chattanooga FC in 2018, playing in all four preseason friendlies. Costa’s legendary drive and goal against La Liga’s Real Betis may be his most noteworthy while wearing the navy and sky.
“I am so pleased for Joao,” Chattanooga FC Associate Head Coach Peter Fuller said. “He has had an excellent Members Cup run. It is a great honor for him to win this award and it is wonderful for the club.”
Costa played for the Charlotte Eagles in 2017, winning a national title with the North Carolina side. His claim to fame was being featured on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10, where he nabbed the number one spot. Costa’s beautiful scissor-kick goal evened the score for the Charlotte Eagles in the 26th minute of the championship game.
The Porto Allegre, Brazil native tallied 12 goals and four assists during all competitions in 2019. Costa registered 16 goals and 10 assists in his two seasons with Chattanooga FC. He played collegiately at Truett McConnell University.
