New Orleans Jesters Defeat Port City FC 1-0 in U-19 Action
By New Orleans Jesters
The New Orleans Jesters U-19 handed Port City FC U-19 their first defeat of the pilot Sunday afternoon at Pan-American Stadium. Forward Matthew Vallejo came off the bench to score a late winner and decide a closely fought contest.
Coach Igor Siskov brought Vallejo on with just over twenty minutes to play and he made an immediate impact latching on to a cross from midfielder Lyle DiCarlo and heading home past the Port City goalkeeper Kevin Ori. It was Vallejo’s second goal of the season.
The win is New Orleans’ second straight and lifts the Jesters up into second place in the NPSL U-19 pilot standings just one point behind Port City FC.
The goal came almost immediately after Port City’s best chance of the match after forward William Hernandez-Sexton was slipped through on goal. Hernandez-Sexton got to the pass first but Jesters goalkeeper Jourdan Schumacher made a good blocking save.
Port City finished the game with ten men after midfielder Retsin Kabambala was ejected after receiving a second yellow card for a challenge on Sammy Nichols.
The Jesters head to Mobile, AL next Saturday for a match versus AFC Mobile U-19. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm.
