Port City’s Mohammed Diallo Shines Against Pensacola FC
By Port City FC
Port City’s Mohammed Diallo scored all four goals for the home team, moving Port City FC back to the top of the table in a rematch of an October 20th match in Pensacola.
Port City started the scoring in the 10th minute when a pass was intercepted just outside the Pensacola box. Diallo received a quick pass from Baronyi Kengeye and buried the shot into the corner.
The game took on a strong midfield presence for the next 25 minutes with several corner kicks by both teams, but little in terms of serious chances. In the 35th minute, Port City winger Dustin Cuevas broke free across the top of the Pensacola box and was fouled right on top of the penalty line. The referee pointed outside the box and Mohammed Diallo lined up to shoot. He struck the ball through the wall and it found the Pensacola net.
Pensacola responded with several free kicks of their own in the last 14 minutes of the first half. While several were on target, each were handled easily by the Port City keeper.
Pensacola came out the better side to start the second half, looking for holes in the Port City defense. However, that changed in the 62nd minute when Demarcus Hawkins forwarded the ball to Diallo who slotted the ball away for his third goal of the night, giving Port City a 3-0 lead.
Diallo scored again in the 70th minute on an unassisted goal, moving the score to 4-0 and putting the game out of reach.
Pensacola did not quit, however, and pressured Port City for the last few minutes, culminating in a good goal by Logan Tyree in the 80th minute. Pensacola nearly scored one more time in the last 10 minutes, but Port City held on for the 4-1 win and put itself back into first place in the table.
With one game remaining, both Port City (15 points) and Pensacola (13 points) can still win the U-19 pilot. Both teams have one game remaining against AFC Mobile. Port City plays AFC Mobile at home on Friday, November 6th. AFC Mobile then hosts Pensacola on Sunday, November 8th.
