By New Orleans Jesters
The New Orleans Jesters U19s lost 2-1 to Southern States SC U19 Friday night at Pan American Stadium. Midfielder Julian Avila scored two second-half goals to lead Southern States to a come-from-behind win versus the Jesters in the opening match of the spring season.
Following a back-and-forth opening the Jesters came close to taking the lead after earning a free kick in the 12th minute. Forward Mason Morise took the kick but saw his effort rise just over the crossbar.
New Orleans opened the scoring in the 53rd minute after midfielder Santos Cacho squared the ball to Cam Robinson who finished from close range.
Southern States pulled level in the 64th minute through Avila. Then less than five minutes later Avila added what would prove to be the game-winner, converting a penalty kick.
The Jesters return to action next Friday night at Pan American Stadium to take on Port City FC U19. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
