Temecula FC Defeats FC Arizona 2-0

By Temecula FC

Temecula FC picked up their first win of the season by defeating FC Arizona 2-0 at home on Saturday evening.  Both goals for the Quails came in the later stages of either half.

This was a must-win match that could be described as relatively nervy for the team in the Temecula Valley.  The pressure was on for the Quails as they were playing a team leading the Southwest Conference and one that had not lost a league match this season.

The Quails certainly did not want to be the team on the losing end at the final whistle, and their work rate throughout the match was easy for all to see.

The first goal came in the 29th minute when Adrian Macias breezed past one Arizona defender, shook off another defender, and then took a right-footed strike from just outside the goal box. The ball hit the back of the net and the supporters erupted.

The second goal would come with only five minutes left in the match, a ball put into the box landed on the chest of Donovan Wilson.  He would then turn and put the ball into the roof of the net to start the early celebrations on the Quails’ sidelines.

The win gives the Quails three points on the season, moving them up to third place in the Southwest Conference table, only four points out of the top spot.  More importantly the Quails give themselves a lifeline to make the playoffs with seven matches to play.  Up next Temecula FC hosts ASC San Diego on Saturday, May 29th at Patricia Birdsall Sports Park.
