On a cold and windy night at Dietz Stadium, Stockade FC and Valeo FC battled to a scoreless draw and a share of the points. An electric crowd made their presence heard all night long.
A rocky first half saw both teams attempting to find a hold on the match in unseasonable conditions. The best chance for Stockade FC came in the first half as Pedro Espindola cut in on his right foot but his effort was directly at the Valeo goalkeeper.
The second half began with a burst of energy from the Stockade FC front line as they began to create more opportunities on goal. A Vinny Colantuono effort was driven off the post, but eventually ruled offsides and created a spark.
The most clear cut chance of the game came when Scott Zobre was sent in on a breakaway but his finish could not beat the Valeo keeper.
Dylan McDermott came up big late in a match to preserve Stockade FC’s third shutout of the season. On a free kick, McDermott’s diving effort bounced off the crossbar and eventually out of danger.
Stockade FC remains unbeaten on the year at 2-0-2 (W-L-T) and travels on the road for the next two matches. Next weekend, Stockade FC will travel to Greater Lowell Rough Diamonds (Sat. 6/5 at 7:00 pm) before heading to Hartford the following weekend (Sat. 6/12 at 7:00 pm). Stockade FC will return to Dietz Stadium on Saturday, June 19 at 6:00 pm when Boston City FC rolls into to Kingston.
Joao Avila, a Marist men’s soccer center back, allowed little to no danger on the Stockade FC goal. His ability to link play with the midfielders create dangerous opportunities going forward. Late in the match, Avila even found himself pushing forward to help find a game-winner. Avila has been critical in Stockade FC starting the season with three shutouts in four matches. Avila was named Man of the Match because of these efforts.
