Alexandria Reds Defeat Grove Soccer United 3-0

By Alexandria Reds

On May 20, Alexandria Reds played host to Grove Soccer United in NPSL Mid-Atlantic Conference action. This occasion marked the first home match for the Alexandria Reds in NPSL history.  After a long day of behind-the-scenes preparation, the venue was set.

Grove Soccer United received a red card in the first five minutes.

The Reds were off to a red hot start with an opening goal in the 16th minute by forward Dilane Zouantcha, assisted by Oluwaseni Joseph.  Shortly after halftime the Reds went up 2-0 with a Miles Lam goal inside the box.  To cap off the evening, defender Yoshiki Igarashi hit a left-foot curler from outside the box to the far post in the 78th minute.

Reds goalkeeper and Man of the Match Nick Conklu made numerous top-tier saves to keep Grove Soccer United out of the net for his second clean sheet of the season.

Reds General Manager Leland Creadick shared his thoughts on the day.

“Today was a long, warm, eventful day but none of this would have been possible without the help of numerous Alexandria Soccer Association staff members who started preparing early this morning,” Creadick said. “Everyone worked hard to ensure we created a professional environment for the teams and fans.  Playing in front of our youth teams and fans and earning a result was incredible.  This evening’s result means everything to this organization and city, and we will strive to improve each week moving forward.”

The Reds will travel to Frederick, MD next weekend to meet FC Frederick on Memorial Day weekend.
