CF10 Houston FC’s first victory of the 2022 NPSL season came this weekend with a 3-0 result against Austin United FC.
Austin had several opportunities, and they tried to pierce the defense of Houston on a number of occasions. The defense was always well-placed, and they rejected all the attacks that the visiting team tried. One of the most important players in this effort was central defender Tarik Abdi.
Houston forward Kel Onyewuenyi opened the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute.
From that moment CF10 Houston FC dominated in all areas of the field, and did not allow Austin United to play comfortably. CF10 continued like this throughout the first half and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Flores sent Ellington Fuller to play on the right side where he ended up being very dangerous in the attack, scoring in the 78th and 90th minutes. The pair of goals ultimately gave Houston a 3-0 win.
Other key players in this match were midfielder Mark Guevara and defender Dawson Palomar, and each played their part in helping Houston achieve its first victory of the season.
Austin United and their head coach Orlando Medrano recognized that it was not their best night, and they hope to be able to reverse the situation in upcoming games. At the same time, they credited the victory to the work of CF10 Houston FC.
