Alexandria Reds Defeat FC Frederick 2-0

By Alexandria Reds

The Alexandria Reds played host to FC Frederick in a Mid-Atlantic Conference rematch Friday night.  Coming into this matchup the Reds sat undefeated at 4-0-1 with only two goals against hoping to continue their streak.

A slower first half due to temperatures of over 90 degrees saw both sides struggle to find opportunities which carried into halftime with the score at 0-0.  Thankfully the sun started to set, and a breeze came along which led to an intense second half.

Alexandria took a 1-0 lead after midfielder Daniel Ankrah played a beautiful through ball to winger Seni Joseph who dribbled with pace at goal and hit a low shot to the far left corner. Shortly after Reds goalkeeper Nick Conklu made a highlight save to keep FC Frederick off the scoresheet.

Second-half substitute and winger Kevin Peprah made an instant impact.  Midfielder Yoshiki Igarashi played a backheel pass at the top left of the 18 for Peprah who hit a right-footed curler to the far right post to put the Reds up 2-0 in the 84th minute.

The Reds defense led by Conklu saw the match out and earned another shutout.  This result leaves the Reds undefeated at 5-0-1 with only two goals against in six matches.

Reds General Manager Leland Creadick shared his thoughts on the match.

“Our guys are incredibly resilient,” Creadick said. “After a tough first half due to the heat, the boys gathered themselves and showed why they are undefeated by earning this result.  Our supporters played a huge role in motivating the guys to keep pushing in the second half.  We are thankful for all of the support and hope to continue this momentum.”

The Reds are back home next Friday, June 24 to face off against Virginia Beach City FC.  The Reds visited VB City FC for the first match of the season which ended in a 0-0 draw.
