CF10 Houston FC Defeats Corinthians FC of San Antonio 1-0

CF10 Houston FC did not arrive in San Antonio as favorites to face the local Corinthians who were leading the Lone Star Conference with a 7-0-2 record.  Houston was coming off a 8-0 loss to Irving last weekend, which made the 1-0 victory a pleasant surprise.

Houston’s tactic was clear: not to allow Corinthians SC to have the ball and to press all over the field.

Forward Michael Guzman’s defensive pressure caused a turnover and allowed midfielder Mark Guevara to beat the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead for Houston in the 53rd minute.

Houston head coach Carlos Flores highlighted the dedication of his players who never gave up and defended the result for the rest of the match.  San Antonio had dangerous plays in stoppage time but Houston’s defense was impeccable.  CF10 Houston FC earned its second win of the season, surprising a Corinthians team that did not know how to solve the strategy from the visitors.

CF10 Houston FC heads into the final stretch of the season in search of more points that would put them in a better position in the Lone Star Conference table.  Their next game against Laredo Heat SC is on Wednesday, June 29.
