3-3 Draw for California Odyssey SC and FC Davis

By California Odyssey SC

Both teams knew that the heat would play a big factor in the game.  The 95-degree kickoff temperature at 2:00 pm set the pace for a battle of willpower.  Cal Odyssey got off to an early start with a nice goal from Alexis Rodriguez via some combination play in the box.  FC Davis was undeterred and put in a brace five minutes later from Wumi Aladetimi.

However, the favor was returned immediately after the restart by some nice 1v1 flank play and a sublime cross by Ryan DaRocha for an assist to Alexis Rodriguez to make it 2-1.  This was the second goal of the night for Rodriguez; he was making his debut and first start for Cal Odyssey.

This game proved to be a back-and-forth effort, and FC Davis earned a penalty kick after a 1v1 collision in the box with GK Eddie Veliz, and there Aladetimi earned his second goal of the night.  The 2-2 halftime score set the tone for the second half as the heat continued to become a factor.  FC Davis took the lead in the middle of the second half on a tap-in finish at the far post by Ty Shikashio.

Odyssey were not deterred and battled back to score in the last ten minutes off of a corner kick play at the back post.  After a flick from the near post, substitute Latauro Donoso drilled a volley back to the opposite post for the game-tying goal.  This was Donoso’s first official goal after having one called back for offside earlier in the first half.

Both teams played well under difficult circumstances.  FC Davis moved to 0-3-1, while Cal Odyssey remained unbeaten at 1-0-2.
