2-2 Draw for Kansas City Sol and Demize NPSL
By Kansas City Sol
Kansas City Sol saw their inaugural match end in a 2-2 draw against Demize NPSL at Julian Field in Parkville, MO. The game started as a cagey affair with multiple yellow cards. A red card opened up the match, but the Sol were able hold onto a draw after goals from Anthony Rangel and Roman Knox.
“I was both proud and disappointed with our team character today,” Sol head coach Huw Williams said. “Disappointed that we made a bad decision which resulted in the red card, but proud of the way we continued to play after the card.”
Both outfits played an end-to-end match up to halftime with a 0-0 draw going into the break.
The first goal in the history of the KC Sol was scored by Rangel in the 52nd minute, but a red card in the 58th minute saw the Sol reduced to 10 men. Shortly after, Demize attacker Charles Guelly found the net after a good sequence of passing, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 62nd minute.
Though Demize controlled the bulk of possession, the Sol was set up for the counter. After a fast break, Demize committed a foul in the box, leading to a penalty kick. Knox stepped up and put it away from the spot in the 73rd minute.
After the penalty, Sol moved into a low block, repelling Demize’s attack. A KC Sol foul right outside of the 18-yard box set up a free kick and a goal from Demize attacker Brandon Smalley in the 89th minute. A flurry of action in the last five minutes saw both teams settle for the 2-2 draw.
“I would like to thank the Northland community for coming out to support the team,” Williams added.
Kansas City Sol’s next match is on the road on Saturday, May 27th versus Reign FK. Their next home match is on Wednesday, May 31st at 6:00 pm at Julian Field.
