2-2 Draw for Kansas City Sol and Tulsa Athletic
By Kansas City Sol
The Kansas City Sol returned home to Julian Field after a tough 3-2 road loss to Reign FK last Saturday. Multiple lightning delays lasting over two hours broke the game up. After a first-half Tulsa goal from Aboubakr Diallo, KC Sol had a debut goal from Riley Mickelson in the 56th minute. Zion Long tallied his first goal of the season ten minutes later. The last goal of the match came from Tulsa’s Joseph Ruiz in the 79th minute.
After a contentious first 25 minutes, Tulsa Athletic struck first after a blistering counter attack. Soon after the goal, lightning led to the first delay. After a 30-minute delay, the teams went into halftime with Tulsa up 1-0.
The Sol’s attack sprang to life early in the second half with a Mickelson strike that the keeper fumbled. Frantic Tulsa possession turned the ball over to Sol speedster Tony Rangel who squared the ball to Long. Long put the ball in the back of the net in the 66th minute. Shortly after the goal, the referee blew for another weather delay that lasted for around an hour.
After the break Tulsa came out with a high press, putting the Sol defense under pressure. Tulsa capitalized and scored after a free-flowing move from the wing in the 79th minute.
KC Sol, still searching for its first win, plays Arkansas Wolves SC next Saturday in Benton, Arkansas.
