Club Atletico Saint Louis Defeats Iowa Raptors FC 3-2
By Iowa Raptors FC
Club Atletico Saint Louis defeated Iowa Raptors FC in Cedar Rapids by a score of 3-2.
Atletico struck first with attacker Kyeron Daws scoring in the 6th minute. Raptors goalkeeper Sean Austin was able to get his hands on the shot, but it trickled through for the score.
Iowa struck back in the 29th minute. Following a corner kick from Jordan Webb, Sergei Wawryzniak tapped it to Jonah Dancer who finished with a nice move in a crowd in front of Atletico keeper William Nicholson. The score remained tied 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Atletico came out firing, peppering Austin with shots and trapping the Raptors in their own end. Zach Renz and Nick Faddis scored for Atletico, and the Raptors never seriously threatened after the middle of the second half.
Keaton Woods added a goal for the Raptors in extra time off a long pass from Dancer, but time expired soon after.
Dancer continued his customary strong play, and Jordan Webb was active around the net in his one half of play. Wawryzniak and Ricky Orozco played both halves and were tough on defense.
The loss drops Iowa to 2-3 on the season. The Raptors have played Club Atletico St. Louis twice, losing both. Atletico moves to 2-4 on the year with their only wins coming against the Raptors.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, June 10. Atletico travels to Marshalltown, IA to face Des Moines United FC, while the Raptors take on Ehtar Belleville FC at home in Cedar Rapids.
