Kansas City Sol Defeats Arkansas Wolves SC 3-0

By Kansas City Sol

Kansas City Sol returned home with a resounding 3-0 win over Arkansas Wolves SC.

“I’m very proud of the way the team is gelling as a unit,” Sol head coach Huw Williams said. “We thought it would take a little longer but we are happy to see many different players contributing to the recent run of good results.”

The match began on the rain sodden pitch at Julian Field in Parkville, MO.  Arkansas previously defeated Sol 5-1 on June 3rd and used the opening part of the game to settle the high-paced Sol attack.  Much of the play was contained to corner kicks and the middle third of the pitch.  The first half ended in an uneventful fashion with Sol controlling the main share of possession and chances created.

The first 10 minutes of the second half played out with shots from distance by both sides and some tame efforts.  Sean Brooks ended the deadlock and put the Sol ahead after an Arkansas goalkeeper error in the 54th minute.

The next 20 minutes saw a high-pressure approach from Arkansas, playing out of the back and pushing the line high up the pitch.  They were punished in the 70th minute with a goal from Man of the Match Jayvin Van Deventer.  Ten minutes later, he put away another goal after a slaloming run through multiple defenders.

After going up 3-0, the Sol controlled possession but kept up the press.

Goalkeeper Tommy Williams recorded his first clean sheet.

“Great to get a clean sheet and a victory in front of the home crowd.  Proud of our defense and how we were able to get the job done.”

The Sol head into next weekend’s match with a three-game unbeaten run.
