West Texas FC Defeats Fort Worth Vaqueros FC 2-0 in Lone Star Conference Action

By West Texas FC

West Texas FC returned to their home turf at Astound Broadband Stadium to take on the Fort Worth Vaqueros for their Ted Lasso/Father’s Day game.

West Texas FC’s Fernando Gutierrez scored early on in the 16th minute, and goalkeeper Juan Camilo would let nothing past him in the first half.

Fort Worth put some pressure on West Texas FC and their defensive players in the second half. Gutierrez brought the heat back and would score again in the 93rd minute to end the game.

West Texas FC head coach Victor Domingues shared his thoughts on his team’s performance.

“I’m extremely pleased with the team’s unity to face adversity, challenges, and tough moments and find ways to come out on top,” Domingues said. “Going down a man for 20+ minutes, defending as a unit and adding another goal and seeing the bench clear to celebrate all together is awesome to see.  Extremely proud of this great group of guys and now we turn focus to our next challenge this weekend.”

Gutierrez received Man of the Match honors after scoring a brace.  He praised his team’s resilience after a red card in the 66th minute put the home team down to 10 men.

“Playing with one man down, we have known how to suffer and get the three points,” Gutierrez said. “This shows the character of the team and how united we are.”
