Iowa Raptors FC Defeats FC Milwaukee Torrent 3-1
By Iowa Raptors FC
The Iowa Raptors downed the visiting FC Milwaukee Torrent 3-1 in Cedar Rapids.
The Raptors came out strong early. After an injury to starting striker Beni Mubake, his replacement, Saiheed Jah, scored on a nice pass from Kolby Godbolt in the 31st minute. As the clock wound down in the first half, Ricky Orozco was tripped up by a Torrent defender. Jonah Dancer scored on the resulting penalty kick.
The Raptors remained dominant throughout the second half. Iowa added an insurance goal by Godbolt in the 62nd minute, bringing the score to 3-0. Milwaukee threatened briefly when Jules Peycelon was awarded a penalty kick against Raptors goalkeeper Brennon Woody, but the shot missed wide right.
The Torrent’s Khedive Miguel Konde Gwo scored a goal in a crowd in front of the net in the 88th minute.
Iowa played strong on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Enrique Horna and Sergei Wawrzyniak stood out, putting the clamps on several Milwaukee attacks. Offensively, Dancer very nearly added a second goal and came up just short of an assist with a nice pass to Alan Losoya. Woody continued his steady play in goal, and midfielder Orlando Clark set up several Iowa attacks with nice steals near midfield.
Tonight’s win brings the Raptors’ record to an even .500 on the season. FC Torrent’s loss is only their second of the season, bringing their record to 2-2-2.
Both teams trail Des Moines United FC (7-1-1), a team that seems poised to run away with the conference. This weekend Iowa Raptors FC and FC Milwaukee Torrent will meet again in Milwaukee in a must-win battle for both clubs.
