Mario Martinez Named NPSL National Player of the Week

El Farolito goalkeeper Mario Martinez has been selected as the fourth NPSL National Player of the Week for the 2018 NPSL season.

“I am very happy with this recognition, but it was a team effort,” Martinez commented.

In his NPSL debut on April 7th, Martinez made four saves, including a critical save in the 94th minute that would seal El Farolito’s 3-2 win on the road against Napa. He also recorded a key block on a Napa penalty kick.

“His experience was key in the victory, very happy, but not surprised he got the award,” El Farolito Assistant Coach Wilfredo Hernandez added.

The Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico native has been with El Farolito for 11 years. He has experience with three Mexican sides: Tecos (Third Division), Real Hidalgo (Second Division), and Atletico del Carmen (Second Division). He also spent time with the San Diego Flash of the A-League.

The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country. It is awarded every week during the regular season.
