FC Motown Defeats Atlantic City FC 3-0 in Keystone East Conference Final
By FC Motown
It was the matchup everyone was hoping for: two teams that drew twice during the regular season squared off in one of the many exciting conference finals in the NPSL.
The initial 90 minutes of regular time was an even, back-and-forth match that showed incredible saves by both goalkeepers. The deadlock forced two teams that couldn’t get the best of each other all season into an extra 30 minutes to decide who would advance to the East Region Semifinals.
In the 105th minute, a give-and-go combination between Christopher Bermudez and Samuel Pompe set up a last touch from Bermudez that gave the defending national champions a 1-0 lead.
Lightning struck twice in quick succession, and a cross-field ball from Maximus Barboto again found the foot of Bermudez as he cut inside and beat the goalkeeper to the near post in the 110th minute. FC Motown now owned a 2-0 lead as Bermudez stormed towards his team’s bench in celebration.
From goal scorer to provider, Bermudez again found himself cutting through ACFC defenders in the box to find a charging Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca for a goal and a 3-0 lead in the 112th minute. Bermudez’s two goals and one assist pushed FC Motown to their sixth consecutive conference championship and a date with the region’s finest.
FC Motown now advances to the East Region Semifinals on Friday, July 21. They will face Hartford City FC, while Annapolis Blues FC takes on West Chester United SC. The East Region Final will take place the next day on Saturday, July 22. Tickets can be purchased at https://tickets.npsl.com/events/fcmotown-home-game-7-2023..
