Preview: FC Motown’s David Greczek Looks Forward to the 2023 NPSL East Region Tournament
FC Motown goalkeeper David Greczek is a New Jersey soccer legend, someone who has truly left his indelible mark on the game in the Garden State.
The Fairfield, NJ native’s soccer journey started at Rutgers University, where Greczek finished as the program’s all-time saves leader. His success at Rutgers helped the shot stopper become a third-round selection by Sporting Kansas City in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. That was just the beginning of his journey as Greczek also spent time with professional sides like Swope Park Rangers and Greenville Triumph.
Greczek would first call FC Motown home in 2019 before rejoining the club for the 2021, 2022, and 2023 NPSL seasons. He was an integral part of Motown’s 2022 NPSL National Championship squad and is now looking forward to the potential of earning even more hardware in the coming weeks.
“I’m proud of the boys, putting in the performances that have helped us earn the opportunity to play at home,” Greczek said. “At this level, this is a huge advantage for players and their physical and mental abilities.”
Greczek and FC Motown have already risen to the top of the Keystone East Conference this season, but they face an even bigger challenge: the best of the best from the entire East Region.
“Our coaches have come up with a strategy and a plan, and it is our job as players to execute that strategy,” Greczek added. “Our core group has the same beliefs, and the sky’s the limit for our team.”
FC Motown (8-0-2) will face off against the North Atlantic Conference’s Hartford City FC (5-3-2) on Friday, July 1st at 7:00 pm. Motown finished sixth in the league’s overall standings, scoring 34 goals and allowing just 8 goals. Hartford City scored 19 goals en route to a +9 goal differential.
Friday’s first match features the Mid-Atlantic Conference’s Annapolis Blue FC (8-1-1) and the Keystone West Conference’s West Chester United SC (7-0-3) in a 4:00 pm matchup. Annapolis, which boasted incredible home attendance numbers in their inaugural season, had a potent offense that tallied 32 goals and a stingy defense that surrendered just eight goals. West Chester didn’t suffer a single loss in the 2023 regular season, finishing with 24 points and 21 goals.
