Former MLS standout Dilly Duka will be stepping into the head coaching position for FC Motown.

Duka is no stranger to the people of Morris County, as he is well-known by FC Motown fans for leading the team to the NPSL National Championship in 2018 as one of their captains.

Beyond FC Motown, Duka has experience playing for several MLS teams including the New York Red Bulls, Chicago Fire, CF Montréal, and Columbus Crew.  He was originally drafted eighth overall in 2010 by the Crew and made a total of 10 U.S. Open Cup appearances: four with Chicago, four with Columbus, and two with Motown.  Duka also spent a season in 2018-19 with Partizani Tirana, a well-known club from Albania.

Now he will trade in his title as star midfielder and captain for the role of coach, but with the resume that Duka has put together through the years this will likely be an easy move for him.

“Over the past five years I’ve been coaching on the youth side,” Duka said.  “I’ve been learning the coaching fundamentals of the game.  Between that and my knowledge from being a player for so long I’m sure it’ll be a smooth transition for me.”

Since their successful run in 2018 with Duka, FC Motown has continued its winning ways and went on to capture the NPSL National Championship in 2022.  Last year, they continued their success with yet another deep playoff run.

The future for the organization looks bright, and now it will be up to Duka to guide the team to further success in the NPSL and the U.S. Open Cup in 2024.

“FC Motown has a dedicated ownership,” Duka added. “It’s located in a prime spot of a very competitive soccer region in the country.  FC Motown in the past has had very talented players come through their organization, and we always expect new talent every year to represent this organization.”

This is a great opportunity for a former player, especially someone with such great success like Duka.  He is really looking forward to stepping into his role as coach, and knowing his history as a player, the leadership at FC Motown are even more excited to be welcoming him in.

“Dilly is one of the greatest players in Morris County history,” FC Motown co-owner Dan Karosen remarked. “He had an illustrious career in both MLS and Europe.  Dilly knows our club very well and epitomizes what we stand for.  We’re a community club with national ambitions.”

After gaining a lot of experience and success as a player, Duka is now looking to translate some of that success into his coaching career with FC Motown.

“I’m very excited for this experience and I just want to be successful in everything I do,” Duka concluded.
