By Napa Valley 1839 FC

Oakland Stompers came up the bay to take on Napa Valley 1839 FC at Dodd Stadium on Saturday.  Prior to kickoff Napa sat at the top of the Golden Gate Conference with four wins and a loss, just ahead of El Farolito with three wins and two draws.  It was a beautiful evening in Napa with the temperature just under 70 degrees with a slight breeze.

The game started with a slow tempo, yet Napa Valley immediately started to try getting in behind the back line of Stompers with their pace.  Multiple chances by Napa Valley continued as the half ticked on.  In stoppage time, Napa Valley’s Sebastian Carbajal scored a goal, and celebrations ensued but the goal was called back because of a handball.

The first half would be a scoreless affair, but that would not be the case for the second half.

In the 55th minute, Carbajal made a run through two players, playing a pass to Dario Pavon.  Carbajal then set up Emmanuel Duran who slotted it home for the 1-0 lead.

Fourteen minutes later Ryan Kane scored a goal of his own, extending the Napa Valley lead to 2-0.  The remainder of the game showed Napa Valley with a dominant presence but unable to grab any additional goals.

The game would end as 2-0 win for Napa Valley 1839 FC.

Napa Valley 1839 was raising money for a local teen that suffered a spinal cord injury and is now rehabbing and learning his new life in a wheelchair.  Fans gave great support to the team, and the ownership decided to follow the lead of the fans by rounding up to $10,000 to help Blake Mendenhall’s family.
