FC Arizona Defeats FCAZ Tucson 4-1

Another strong showing at home for FC Arizona against southern rival FCAZ Tucson

By FC Arizona

Saturday brought about another strong showing at home for FC Arizona against southern rival FCAZ Tucson. This time FC Arizona played on the home turf at Coyote Stadium during a solar storm that brought nothing but light and good vibes.  The match kicked off at 8:00 pm, and the first goal came in the 13th minute.  Marco Afonso stepped up to take the set piece and crossed it to the far post to find the head of Isaiah Benjamin who wound up putting it in the back of the net.  The center referee blew his whistle at the 45th minute, and FC Arizona went into the locker room leading FCAZ Tucson 1-0.

With the second half underway, it was only three minutes before FC Arizona would find the back of the net yet again.  A through ball and a chip over the FCAZ Tucson keeper marked FC Arizona’s second goal.

FC Arizona’s third goal would come in the 67th minute off a deflection after a throw-in into the box that could not be stopped by the FCAZ Tucson goalkeeper.  FCAZ Tucson took one back moments later, running the ball through the wing and getting it through to a one-on-one with the keeper.

The last of the scoring frenzy came at the 81st minute after a handball in the box by an FCAZ Tucson defender. This left Afonso face to face with the keeper and in true Ronaldo fan fashion, he placed it perfectly in the corner.

The match would end as a 4-1 win for FC Arizona.

“I am extremely happy with the result, the men played very well and are hitting their stride,” said head coach Alejandro Aguilar. “We continue to push ourselves, we have a great weekend ahead and can’t wait to tame the Lions here at home.”

FC Arizona continues their season against the Lions United FC at Coyote Stadium on May 18.  For more information on schedules, streaming, or tickets, please visit www.fcarizona.com or follow the club on all major social media platforms using the handle @fcarizonasoccer.
