Minnesota TwinStars FC Defeats Minnesota Blizzard FC 3-2

By Minnesota Blizzard FC
Minnesota Blizzard FC kicked off their inaugural season on Saturday with their first-ever match against Minnesota TwinStars FC. It was a great showing for the new team as they led for much of the game, only to fall late by a 3-2 margin.

The Blizzard got the only first-half goal put away by Anwar Hamed on a great cross by Leo Runestad. Ashton Frost sent a nice ball to Runestad to set up the play. Blizzard keeper Shae Wirt, who had just arrived the day before, had multiple saves in the first half to keep the Blizzard ahead.

Early in the second half the TwinStars tied it up with a goal by Rolando Barclay. Just three minutes later, the Blizzard retook the lead. There was another great ball into the corner, and this time it came from Hamed. Ryan Dubois collected it and crossed it to Frost for the goal.

Again, the TwinStars leveled the score just minutes later with a goal by David Diawara. The game was back and forth until the Twin Stars broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute with a second goal from Barclay. The Blizzard pushed hard to tie it up with multiple chances, including one off the post, but they could not tie it up.

Max Just had a strong game in the midfield for the Blizzard.

“It was a great showing by the boys in our first-ever game,” said Blizzard owner Chad
Hendricks. “We had five guys arrive from college just days before, so we hadn’t had much training time together. Coach Forrest had a great game plan, and the guys did fantastic.”
