Napa Valley 1839 FC Defeats Oakland SC 2-0

By Napa Valley 1839 FC

A beautiful day in the Napa Valley brought temperatures in the mid-70s and a slight breeze.  Napa Valley 1839 FC played host to Oakland SC at Justin Siena Dodd Stadium.

Napa came out fast, looking to score but to no avail.  Oakland SC gained a bit of tempo for the next 10 minutes of the game.  Yet it was the 26th minute when Dario Pavon placed a header from a Napa corner kick taken by Javier Alcarria Moreno.  Pavon met the ball near the front post and redirected the ball to land just inside the far post to give Napa a 1-0 lead.

The game went back and forth for the remainder of the half with both teams getting some chances but neither finding the back of the net.  It was a fairly clean game with no yellow cards in the first half.  The first half came to an end with Napa leading Oakland 1-0.

The sun began to set, and some marine layer fog came rolling in over the western hills.  The temperature dropped into the 50s.

The game’s second goal came in the 57th minute when a misplaced ball found its way to Pavon.  He beat a defender and slid one under Oakland SC goalkeeper Jesus Medina to give Napa the 2-0 lead.

With five minutes remaining, a great ball from Napa’s Oscar Ortiz set up Emmanuel Duran, but he was unable to keep it on target.

The game ended in a 2-0 win for Napa Valley 1839 FC.

The Golden Gate Conference race is really heating up.  Napa Valley now sits in second place with seven wins and two losses.  Conference leaders El Farolito have five wins and two draws with two games in hand.  Oakland SC have two wins, one draw, and six losses.
