Annapolis Blues FC Defeats DMV Elite FC 4-1

By DMV Elite FC

The stakes were very high coming into this local derby, pitting home side DMV Elite FC against conference leaders Annapolis Blues FC.  Annapolis Blues had beaten DMV Elite 6-2 at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium back on June 1.  That result in itself helped pave the way for a fresh awakening in the ranks of the DMV Elite team.

DMV Elite opened the scoring with a beautiful left-footed curled free kick in the 17th minute from team debutante Robert Franke.  Annapolis did not take too long to respond as they themselves drew level at the 24th minute as a goalmouth tussle was converted by Leo Palomo.  Both teams went to the locker room, a welcome escape from the scotching heat that prevailed, tied 1-1.

The second half started just like the first with both teams creating goal scoring opportunities, but coming just short of converting them.  It was not until the 68th minute when substitute Mikey Revell immediately pounced on a loose ball from the DMV Elite defense, breaking the deadlock for a 2-1 lead for Annapolis.

In the 79th minute, it was Revell again who took advantage of a defensive mix-up to slot the ball into a wide open net as the goalkeeper had rushed up for a failed clearance.  This gave Annapolis a 3-1 lead, and Revell earned a brace for the match.

As the game wore on, DMV Elite pushed more players forward in hopes of salvaging at least a goal.  However, it was Annapolis that struck again.  Luke Dunne scored his first goal of the game in the 90th minute, bringing the final score to 4-1 in favor of the Blues.

This win puts Annapolis Blues in sole control of the top place in the Mid-Atlantic Conference standings.  DMV Elite FC will have very little time to lament Saturday’s result as they gear up for another home game on Wednesday.
