FC Motown vs. NY Shockers: A Gripping Rematch in the East Region Final

In a much-anticipated clash, FC Motown faced off against the New York Shockers for the second time in three years, a rematch of the 2022 East Region semifinals.  Both teams entered the match with strong performances in their previous games.  FC Motown had triumphed over Virginia Dream FC, while the New York Shockers secured a win against West Chester United SC.

The game began with both teams showing intense determination, resulting in a scoreline that remained tied at 0-0 for the first half.  FC Motown displayed aggressive pressing, keen to break the deadlock and secure a victory.  On the other side, the New York Shockers countered with equal vigor, striving to gain an upper hand.

The breakthrough moment came in the 63rd minute, thanks to a well-coordinated play initiated by FC Motown goalkeeper Josh Schaffer.  A long service was launched by Schaffer, targeting the towering 6’7″ Joe Fala.  A deft flick from Fala found Luca Campbell, a standout player from Stevens Institute of Technology, whose touch led to the decisive moment.  Captain Danny Cordeiro capitalized on the opportunity, putting FC Motown ahead 1-0.

As the match progressed, FC Motown continued to press their advantage.  In the 83rd minute, Erick Ruiz, a former Red Bulls Academy star, connected with Papa Sow, a native of Senegal and standout from LIU.  Sow’s strike took a deflection, increasing Motown’s lead to 2-0.

The final minutes of the game witnessed an impressive display from Nico Nee.  The Princeton star made his debut for FC Motown, subbing in the 85th minute.  Within 30 seconds, Nee made his presence felt, scoring to make it 3-0.  But Nee wasn’t done yet.  

In the 89th minute, he struck again with a tight-angle shot, extending the lead to 4-0.  Nee’s impact culminated in the 92nd minute when he won a 50/50 challenge, setting up Randy Arronis, a former Rutgers star, to finalize the score at 5-0.

This resounding victory propels FC Motown into the national semifinals for the second time in three years and the third overall with prior appearances in 2018 and 2022.  The team will host the national semifinal at Ranger Stadium on the campus of Drew University on Saturday night.  Fans are encouraged to stay tuned to FC Motown’s social media channels for more information.
