The Streak Continues for Oxnard Guerreros FC
Add one more to the loss column for the Oxnard Guerreros as they were unable to end the losing streak May 12. when they traveled to take on Riverside Coras.
The Guerreros would battle all game long against a tough Coras side, but were unable to find an equalizer at the end and make it five losses in a row after losing by a score of 2-1.
Scoring would get started early for Coras as Eric Gonzales would find the back of the net in the 11th minute. A defensive lapse would be the downfall yet again for the Guerreros as a long ball would find its way onto Gonzalez’s foot. Gonzalez would then be 1-on-1 with goalkeeper Angel Cervantes. Cervantes tried to close the space and make it more difficult for Gonzales, but it wasn’t enough as he slotted it home and made the score 1-0.
Coras would get a chance to double the lead shortly after when they were awarded a penalty kick, but Cervantes would not be bested this time and he would keep the lead to just one.
The second would be added soon after however, as Shane Shelton would find himself open at the top of the six-yard box. Shelton would receive the ball after a cross and would slot it home.
The score would remain 2-0 going into half, and the Guerreros would have to battle back just like they have before.
The Guerreros would make many changes during the halftime break bringing on Aaron Glover and debutant Ivan Sanchez. These changes would have an immediate impact and resulted in them getting many chances on goal, but were unable to find that first goal.
That would change in the 61st minute after Moises Orozco would score yet another goal for the Guerreros. Orozco would collect the ball at the top of the box and quickly turn the defender. He took one look and made no mistake curling it far post to beat the goalkeeper and cut the lead in half.
The offensive pressure would continue for the Guerreros, but Coras had a match for each and every move the team from Oxnard threw at them.
The final whistle would blow, and end yet another game in a loss for the Guerreros. This loss makes it five straight, and puts the Guerreros in a hole that will be very hard to climb out of.
Oxnard will have another chance to end this losing streak on May 19 when FC Arizona comes to town. Arizona is coming off of two straight losses and will be looking to bounce back against a hungry Oxnard side.
