1-1 Draw for American Soccer Club New York and New York Shockers

Hofstra University’s Captains Field played host to a spirited and competitive North Atlantic Conference matchup between the hometown American Soccer Club New York and the New York Shockers. Long Island’s Fighting Tomcats earned their first points of the young NPSL season with a dramatic 1-1 draw against the visiting Shockers.
American Soccer Club NY hosted the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s Olympic Development Program as part of an exciting ODP Night. The atmosphere at kickoff was electric, and the crowd was filled with a virtual local “Who’s Who” of NY soccer personalities and former college and professional players, showing strong support for the home side.
The American Soccer Club NY came out with energy, nearly finding the net in the third minute when Kenny Gomez rose to meet a cross from Alberto Nieto, but the header sailed just high. The Shockers responded with a sharp attack of their own, but a toe-poke finish was easily handled by ASC NY goalkeeper Kenny Cordova.
After early chances from both sides, the visitors broke the deadlock in the 18th minute on a defensive miscue. The turnover led to a decisive strike from Yusif Okine, who powered home a shot from just outside the center of the box. Despite pressure and several promising attacks, ASC couldn’t convert dominant possession into a goal before the break. ASC’s best chances of the half came off crosses by Jorge Nieto and efforts from Julio Espinal and Aidan Kolbe, but Shockers goalkeeper Daniel Shannon stood tall, making key saves and confidently handling crosses.
The second half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams exchanging chances. Espinal continued his dominant performance in midfield but ASC couldn’t convert in the final third. As the match entered its final stages, the hometown Fighting Tomcats pressed higher and looked increasingly dangerous when a Shane Siegel header was saved, and Espinal blasted it home. The apparent equalizer was ruled out of touch prior to the cross and ruled a goal kick. Shannon continued to frustrate the home side with excellent positioning and reflexes between the posts.
ASC NY increased its dominance of possession through the 83rd minute. A powerful Chris Morandi strike forced another difficult save for Shannon, keeping the Shockers in front. The pressure continued to build with blasts from Juan Gomez and substitute Tommy Wagner, testing the keeper and Jorge Nieto nearly connecting on a late cross in the 90th minute.
The Fighting Tomcats finally broke through in the 91st minute when Matthais Adamek found center back Nick Wilson on an overlapping run down the right flank. Wilson delivered a brilliant one-touch, low-driven cross that found Wagner at the top of the six-yard box. Wagner’s first touch found the lower right corner, sending the home crowd into hysteria. The late goal was enough to secure a valuable point and a deserved result for ASC NY, who had dominated possession in the final stages. The American Soccer Club New York outshot the New York Shockers 9-2.
“After a frustrating and not very sharp opening match last weekend, the boys had a positive reaction all week in training and at the opening of this game,” American Soccer Club New York head coach John Fitzgerald stated. “We’re not satisfied with tonight’s result, but very pleased with how we handled an early and costly mistake.”

Subbed on late but made an immediate impact. In just over 10 minutes of play, he recorded two shots and scored the game-tying goal, earning the LifeVac Player of the Game honors.
