Minnesota Blizzard FC Defeats Sioux Falls Thunder 3-0

The Minnesota Blizzard FC notched their first win of the season and first win as an NPSL club with a 3-0 victory over Sioux Falls Thunder FC.  The Blizzard joined the NPSL in 2024 and didn’t register a win in their first season.  However, that changed on Saturday night. 

The Blizzard opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Cian McGoey crossed a ball into the box that Jadon Morgan slotted home for the 1-0 lead.

Sioux Falls would press hard to get the equalizer.  They had a shot go off the crossbar, and Blizzard goalkeeper Danny Burgos made two big saves to keep the Blizzard up 1-0 at halftime. 

In the second half, the Blizzard started strong with good possession and drew a free kick in a dangerous position.  Cian McGoey came up big again in the 52nd minute, putting the free kick in the upper left corner to make it 2-0. 

McGoey wasn’t finished making an impact, as he outran a defender and chipped the Thunder keeper to make it 3-0 in the 63rd minute.  Sioux Falls almost ruined the clean sheet with a late goal, but Burgos made a great goal-line save to keep it 3-0.

The Blizzard defense led by Reid Wolf, Elijah Bishop, Diego Connell, and Devan DiGrado helped preserve the clean sheet.

The Blizzard next take on Duluth FC on May 27.
