District Elite FC Opens NPSL Campaign with Gritty 0–0 Draw against Alexandria Reds

District Elite FC launched their inaugural NPSL regular season with a scoreless draw against the Alexandria Reds on May 18 at George Washington University, in front of 300 fans under sunny, 78-degree skies. The match marked the club’s first-ever home fixture, and both teams showed balanced quality throughout. Salif Leintu came close multiple times in the first half for District Elite but was denied by strong goalkeeping, while Uriel Koffi set up Jack Sullivan on a breakaway just before halftime that was blocked at the last moment. The Reds nearly took the lead in the second half through Holden Woodings, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
The match was a back-and-forth battle, filled with breakaways, close calls, and crucial saves. Both sides had goals denied either by offsides or last-ditch defending, with the Reds goalkeeper making a stunning late save to keep out a potential game-winner from Leintu.
Captain Pat Kakayira was named District Elite’s Man of the Match for anchoring the backline and guiding the team to a clean sheet in its first league test. District Elite FC returns to action at home on May 24 against Grove United, looking to build on a strong defensive showing and turn chances into goals.
