Michigan Rangers FC Defeats Gio’s Lions SC Chicago 2-1

The Michigan Rangers FC earned a gritty 2-1 victory over Gio’s Lions SC Chicago on Sunday night, fueled by a clinical performance from Liam Kervick and a resilient team effort despite both sides being reduced to ten men.

Kervick opened the scoring in the 14th minute, latching onto a precise assist from Sean Keane to give the Rangers an early edge.  The forward struck again just six minutes into the second half, doubling the lead in the 51st minute and putting the home side in control.

Tensions flared midway through the match, resulting in red cards for Caleb Postlewait of the Rangers and Angel Mendez of Gio’s Lions.  Both teams were forced to finish the match with ten men, but the Rangers stayed composed and organized under pressure.

Gio’s Lions pulled one back late, as Kaito Nakayama scored in the 91st minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.  However, it proved too little, too late, as the Rangers held on to secure all three points.

“We had to dig in for that one,” said head coach Stuart Collins. “We were feeling Friday’s game in the legs, and we had to make a few changes.  The sending off affected the game, and we changed our approach in the second half to counteract it.  I’m proud of the boys.  We were far from our best today but we were resilient and clinical.”

With the win, the Rangers continue their strong form in the NPSL campaign, gaining valuable momentum as the season progresses.
