Alexandria Reds Power through Rain and Rivals in 4-0 Victory over DMV Elite FC

Sunday night’s clash between the Alexandria Reds and DMV Elite FC unfolded under tough conditions, with rain-soaked turf and heated emotions shaping a wild 90 minutes.  The Reds emerged from the storm — literally and figuratively — with a commanding 4-0 win, fueled by clinical finishing and composed play. 

The first half was a physical grind.  Rain fell off and on throughout the match, creating a slick surface that caused the ball to zip unpredictably and possession to change frequently. Both teams struggled to find rhythm early, and the first 20 minutes featured two yellow cards, a reflection of the sloppy tackles and intensity on display.  Despite the disorder, both sides managed to carve out half-chances, but it was Alexandria who struck first. 

In the final minutes before halftime, Logan Steren broke the deadlock with a goal off a corner kick, smashing the ball home to give the Reds a deserved lead.  The goal ignited a surge in energy, and barely two minutes later, the Reds doubled their advantage.  Abdul Kamara raced in behind the defense following a quick breakout from the back and slotted the ball calmly past the DMV Elite FC goalkeeper.  With a 2-0 lead at the break, Alexandria looked in full control. 

As the second half began, the rain intensified.  Both teams continued to struggle with control and fluidity, as the game devolved into a back-and-forth battle.  But once again, the Reds found a way through.  Late in the second half, Alonzo Aguilar — a standout from the MLS Next U19 academy team playing up with the Reds for the summer — capped off a beautiful team move. After a well-placed cross from Azaria Tewodros, Aguilar arrived at the back post and passed the ball into the net with poise, pushing the lead to 3-0. 

Just minutes later a challenge inside the box led to a penalty for the Reds.  Christian Rodriguez calmly buried the spot kick in the bottom left corner, sealing the 4-0 scoreline. 

In a game dictated by weather, physicality, and momentum, the Alexandria Reds kept their composure and showed their class from start to finish.
