With playoff implications on the line for both NPSL sides, the American Soccer Club New York battled to a thrilling 3–3 draw against New Haven United FC on Saturday night at Yale University’s Reese Stadium. The Fighting Tomcats (2-3-4) displayed grit and resilience in their final away match of their inaugural NPSL regular season.

Captain Brian Saramago wasted no time putting ASC NY ahead, striking in the second minute after pouncing on a rebound of a Tommy Wagner shot. New Haven responded immediately, leveling the score just two minutes later and then taking a 2–1 lead in the 21st minute.

In only his second appearance for the Fighting Tomcats, midfielder James Thristino continued to impress, netting the equalizer off another assist by Tommy Wagner and his second goal in as many games to make it 2–2.

The back-and-forth contest continued into the second half. Against the run of play, New Haven regained the lead in the 54th minute. But ASC NY’s talisman Saramago struck again with an assist from Chris Morandi in the 80th minute, delivering his second goal of the night (fifth on the season) and tying the game at 3–3. ASC NY goalkeeper Kenny Cordova had another stong performance in goal, recording four saves and showing great leadership.

The Tomcats dominated the final 10 minutes, controlling possession and unleashing a barrage of shots, but were unable to find the winner.

The result sets up a decisive final showdown for ASC NY. On Saturday, July 5th at 7:00 pm, the Tomcats will return home to Captain’s Field at Hofstra University for a pivotal rematch against New Haven United. With a playoff spot in the highly competitive NPSL North Atlantic Conference on the line, ASC NY controls its destiny — a win will secure their postseason berth.
