Michigan Rangers FC Books Spot in Conference Final with 2-0 Win over Gio’s Lions SC Chicago

The Michigan Rangers punched their ticket to the Central States Conference Final with a 2-0 victory over Gio’s Lions on Tuesday, July 9 at Davenport University’s Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.

The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Liam Kervick scored a stunning backheel goal off a low cross from Domenic Baumann.  The inventive finish energized the Rangers and gave them a deserved lead heading into the break.

In the 76th minute, Vianney Durand doubled the advantage in emphatic fashion.  After a partially cleared ball fell to him outside the box, Durand struck a first-time volley that soared past the goalkeeper and into the net to seal the result.

Head Coach Stuart Collins praised his squad’s composure and effort after the match.

“Full credit to Gio’s Lions — they’re a quality side and made us work for it,” Collins said. “I’m proud of the group tonight.  We stayed organized, took our chances well, and earned a spot in the final. Now our full focus turns to Saturday.”

With the win, the Rangers advance to the Central States Conference Final with where they’ll face FC Pride.

The final is set for 7:00 pm on Saturday, July 12th at Davenport University’s Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
