FC Motown Falls to Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals 3-1 in Keystone Conference Action

FC Motown moved to a 4-2 record to begin the second half of their season. In their sixth game of their 2026 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) campaign, Motown was unable to jump up to second place, falling 3-1 to the Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals.
The Ukrainians started off flying, putting constant pressure on Motown and denying them from playing their intricate football. Philadelphia came up with the first big chance and first corner of the game within 12 minutes, after which Motown smoothed out their defensive shape and began dominating. The chances started rolling for Motown, getting their first two chances from striker Julian Gomez and captain Zach Perez. Eventually they would find the game’s first shot on target through Andres Lazo in the 18th minute, with their second coming just a minute later from Arnau Rabassa.
Motown continued to maintain control throughout the first half despite some pushback from the Ukrainian Nationals. The biggest chance came in the 32nd minute when a scrappy attempt from a Motown corner needed to be cleared off of the goal line. Both teams looked to produce more as they headed into the break at 0-0.
The second half began with Motown taking the reins, keeping possession in the opposing half. However, this composure was short-lived, as Philadelphia forward Patryk Rojek cleaned up a rebounded shot to make it 1-0 in the 52nd minute.
Motown responded aggressively, yet were unable to break through the back line of the Ukrainians. That was until the 61st minute, when Rivendi Pierre-Louis beat two defenders on the right wing before squaring the ball to Luke Ayaz, who seemingly slotted the ball in the bottom right corner of the net. Despite Motown’s celebrations, the referee ruled that the ball went just wide and that play would continue with a goal kick. After minutes of debate, the Philadelphia side took advantage of the disruption, managing to produce a big attack resulting in a header that gave them a two-goal lead.
Motown would once again respond aggressively, finding themselves in debate once again over a possible handball around the 70th minute. Despite not getting the call, they continued their push, and in the 71st minute, their aggression would produce a wonderful strike from Ethan Hagen to make it 2-1. The teams traded chances as Motown pushed for an equalizer. Goalkeeper TJ Krongard would come up with a big save in the 84th minute, keeping their comeback hopes alive. Motown was able to create two more chances just before the 90th minute. A thunderous volley from Matthew Escobar reached the back of the net, but was taken back by the assistant referee who ruled that the ball had previously gone out. Escobar again caught a volley, this time forcing a big save from the Philadelphia goalkeeper. In the end, their efforts were fruitless, as Motown allowed one final goal in additional time when committing everyone forward, resulting in a 3-1 defeat.
FC Motown looks to bounce back on June 17th against New Jersey United AC, where they will have another chance at moving into second place in the Keystone Conference.
